Honor Unveils Flagship Magic8 Series Smartphones in China
Honor has officially launched its Magic8 and Magic8 Pro smartphones in the Chinese market. These devices represent the latest advancements in Honor’s flagship lineup, incorporating several notable upgrades, including a dedicated AI button. Both models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 System-on-Chip (SoC).
Honor Magic8 Pro
The Magic8 Pro features a comprehensive camera system on the rear, composed of three distinct lenses. The telephoto unit utilizes a 200MP sensor with a 1/1.4-inch sensor size and an f/2.6 aperture lens, supporting 3.7x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS). The primary camera incorporates a 50MP sensor with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size, an f/1.6 aperture, and OIS. Completing the rear camera array is a 50MP ultrawide camera, offering a 122-degree field of view (FOV).
The front of the device houses a 6.71-inch OLED LTPO display, characterized by a 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 1256 x 2808 pixels, and a peak brightness of 6,000 nits. The front-facing camera features a 50MP sensor, supplemented by a 3D depth camera for enhanced facial recognition. The Magic8 Pro also incorporates a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for secure biometric authentication.
Powering the Magic8 Pro is a 7,200mAh Si-C battery in the Chinese variant. The European Union version of the device will feature a 6,270mAh battery. Charging capabilities include support for up to 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
The Magic8 Pro operates on MagicOS 10 and incorporates a suite of AI-driven features, including the Yoyo agent. The integrated AI button is user-customizable, enabling access to the AI assistant with a long press and facilitating other user-defined actions.
The Magic8 Pro is rated IP68/IP69/IP69K for water and dust resistance and is available in Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black color options. The device measures 8.4mm in thickness and weighs 213g.
Honor Magic8
The standard Magic8 model shares the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC with the Pro variant and features a 6.58-inch OLED LTPO display with specifications comparable to the Pro model. It also includes the AI button and the Yoyo assistant.
The rear camera setup comprises a 50MP sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor size and OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 64MP telephoto unit with 3x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is equipped with a 50MP sensor.
Distinguishing the Magic8 from the Pro model is the absence of a 3D depth camera for biometric authentication. However, the device does include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
The Honor Magic8 is powered by a 7,000mAh battery and supports 90W wired and 80W wireless charging. Color options mirror those of the Pro model: Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black.
Both the Magic8 and Magic8 Pro are currently available for pre-order in China, with the official launch date set for October 23. The base model (12GB/256GB) is priced at CNY 4,499 (approximately $630). Additional configurations include a 12GB/512GB option (CNY 4,799 / $670), a 16GB/512GB option (CNY 4,999 / $700), and a 16GB/1TB option (CNY 5,499 / $770).
The Magic8 Pro pricing starts at CNY 5,699 (approximately $800) for the 12GB/256GB configuration. Other variants include a 12GB/512GB option (CNY 5,999 / $840), a 16GB/512GB option (CNY 6,199 / $870), and a 16GB/1TB option (CNY 6,699 / $940).
