The Redmi Watch 6: A Refined Smartwatch with Enhanced Features
The Redmi Watch 6, the latest iteration in Xiaomi’s smartwatch lineup, has been released in China, representing a series of refinements over its predecessor, the Redmi Watch 5. Maintaining the same introductory price point of CNY 600 (approximately $85/€75/₹7,500), the Watch 6 offers several key improvements in design and functionality. It is available in three color options: Blue, Silver, and Black.
Design and Construction
A significant enhancement is the reduced profile of the Watch 6. The device is now under 10mm thick, contributing to a more streamlined and comfortable on-wrist experience. The unibody construction features an aluminum alloy casing, complemented by a stainless steel crown. A new addition is a dedicated shortcut button, which allows for customization of three actions: a single click, a long press, and a double click. Default settings assign these actions to access the control center, the power menu, and emergency contact initiation, respectively. The watch’s weight, excluding the strap, is approximately 31g, a slight reduction compared to the previous model.
Functionality and Features
The Redmi Watch 6 incorporates a 550mAh battery, providing an estimated battery life of up to 24 days with minimal usage, up to 12 days with health tracking enabled, and up to 7 days with the Always-On Display (AOD) activated. The device offers an Always-On Display as an option. Enhancements to positioning accuracy are provided through dual L1 antennas.
The smartwatch is equipped with a comprehensive suite of health-tracking features, including heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurement, and sleep analysis. It also includes over 150 sports modes to cater to a diverse range of fitness activities. The Redmi Watch 6 is rated 5ATM, ensuring water resistance suitable for activities such as snorkeling, with continuous heart rate monitoring capabilities underwater.
Software and Connectivity
The Watch 6 operates on HyperOS 3 out-of-the-box and supports Bluetooth 5.4 for seamless connectivity with paired devices. The smartwatch features QR-based payment compatibility and Near Field Communication (NFC) for functionalities such as digital transit passes and car key emulation. Additionally, it provides the capability for quick replies to WeChat messages. Users can also expand the device’s functionality through the installation of third-party applications, including Flightradar24 and games such as 2048.
Availability
The Redmi Watch 6 is currently available in China. There has been no announcement regarding a global release at this time; however, given the widespread availability of the Redmi Watch 5, international distribution is anticipated.
