Spotify Tests AI-Powered Audiobook Recaps for iOS Users.

Spotify has initiated a beta test of its AI-powered audiobook recap feature for iOS users. This functionality is designed to provide concise summaries of audiobooks, enabling users to swiftly re-engage with content at the point of their previous listening session’s conclusion.

Currently, the recap feature is available for a limited selection of English-language audiobooks. Spotify has indicated intentions to broaden its availability to encompass a wider range of titles in the near future. The “Recap” button will be integrated above the chapter listings within the audiobook interface and will become visible after the user has engaged with a title for a minimum of fifteen minutes.
The Recaps function by synthesizing the previously heard content of a book. Comparable to a “previously on” summary in television programming, Recaps facilitate re-engagement with the narrative without requiring a full re-listening. This feature aims to minimize interruption and maintain user immersion, aligning with Spotify’s ongoing initiatives to streamline and enhance the audiobook listening experience, making it more intuitive and user-centric.
Furthermore, Spotify has introduced an update to the shuffle controls for Premium subscribers. The “Fewer Repeats” feature aims to diminish the likelihood of recently played tracks being replayed consecutively. This feature can be accessed within the Spotify application’s Settings menu, under the Playback settings.
