Huawei Unveils Mate 80 Series in China: Flagship Devices with Enhanced Features
Huawei has officially launched its Mate 80 series in China, introducing the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and the premium Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. Both the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design highlight advancements in camera technology and enhanced battery capabilities. Notably, both devices are equipped with dual telephoto cameras and boast a 6,000mAh battery capacity.
Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max
The Mate 80 Pro Max distinguishes itself with a design reminiscent of the Mate 80 Pro, while incorporating several key upgrades. The device features a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 8,000 nits.
Performance is driven by the Kirin 9030 Pro SoC, coupled with configurations offering up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The device operates on HarmonyOS 6, which introduces significant user interface improvements and enhanced artificial intelligence functionalities.
The rear camera system of the Pro Max comprises a quad-camera setup. This includes a 50MP primary sensor with variable aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), a 40MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP macro telephoto camera with an f/2.1 aperture and OIS, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera offering OIS and 6.2x optical zoom. The imaging capabilities are further enhanced by Huawei’s 2nd generation Red Maple imaging chipset. A 13MP front-facing camera is integrated, complemented by 3D depth-sensing technology.
Powering the device is a 6,000mAh battery, supporting 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Additional features include an IP68 + IP69 rating for water and dust resistance, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, satellite communication support, NFC, a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, stereo speakers, and an infrared sensor.
Available color options for the Mate 80 Pro Max are Aurora Blue, Polar Day Gold, Polar Region Silver, and Polar Night Black. The device measures 8.25mm in thickness and weighs 239g.
Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design
The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design showcases a distinctive aesthetic with a redesigned rear camera module and rear panel, while largely sharing the specifications of the Pro Max. The core components, including the chipset, display, cameras, battery, and other features, remain consistent with the Pro Max model. A key differentiator is the inclusion of 20GB of RAM as the standard configuration.
The Ultimate Design features a titanium mid-frame and utilizes 3rd generation basalt tempered Kunlun glass for the display. The device maintains a thickness of 8.25mm but weighs 249g.
Color options for the Ultimate Design are Hibiscus Purple, Jet Black, and Pure White.

The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max is priced starting at CNY 7,999 (approximately $1,125 USD) for the 16GB/512GB configuration, while the 16GB/1TB variant is available for CNY 8,999 (approximately $1,265 USD). The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design is priced at CNY 11,999 (approximately $1,690 USD) for the 20GB/512GB option and CNY 12,999 (approximately $1,830 USD) for the 20GB/1TB model.
