WhatsApp: Meta Closes Doors on Third-Party LLM Chatbot Integration.

WhatsApp has declared forthcoming modifications to its terms of service, effectively restricting the integration of non-Meta AI chatbots within its messaging platform. Commencing January 15, 2026, the utilization of third-party chatbots will be prohibited. This date also marks the final day of availability for external AI chatbots, including but not limited to ChatGPT and Copilot, for WhatsApp Business users.

Meta bans third-party LLM chatbots in WhatsApp

Following this announcement, OpenAI initiated its withdrawal from WhatsApp the preceding month. Subsequently, Microsoft confirmed the discontinuation of Copilot’s availability within the WhatsApp environment earlier this week. A limited exception will be granted for businesses that deploy AI-driven chatbots to facilitate customer service interactions within the WhatsApp platform. Users of ChatGPT on WhatsApp will retain the capability to migrate their chat history. Conversely, Copilot users will not have access to a data migration function.
