Projected Timeline for Connectivity Restoration
Regarding the timeline for the restoration of full connectivity, Afshin stated:
“Based on the discussions during the Cabinet meeting, I believe that starting from today or tomorrow, through the end of this week, the internet will gradually return to its normal status. However, we have considered a mechanism whereby, if the outage continues, we can provide services to large companies that possess static IPs.”
While emphasizing technical solutions for businesses, the Vice President acknowledged a critical aspect of the digital economy. He added, “In a knowledge-based economy, it is not sufficient for only the companies to have internet access; it is equally crucial that customers also have access to utilize these services.”
Disputing Financial Loss Estimates
Addressing recent statistics estimating the financial damage to online businesses during the internet blackout at 3.8 trillion Tomans (approximately 3.8 Hemmat), Afshin contested the figure.
“The loss incurred by these companies is certainly less than 3.8 trillion Tomans,” Afshin explained, “because the .ir domain was reconnected from a certain date, allowing these companies to maintain their operations.”
According to Afshin, during this specific period of internet disruption, large companies did not suffer as much damage as they did during the “12-day conflict.”
Support for the Startup Ecosystem
Highlighting the vulnerability of the sector, Afshin noted: “The knowledge-based ecosystem is young and fragile, and these companies are likely to sustain the most damage. We immediately drafted a support package for them. Depending on future conditions, we may add several new support packages as needed.”
