Ham-Mihan Newspaper Banned [Update: Website Also Taken Offline]

Tehran – The editor-in-chief of Ham-Mihan has announced the suspension of the newspaper, stating that publication will continue until an official notification is received.

The editor-in-chief of Ham-Mihan confirmed reports regarding the ban on the daily newspaper, noting that newspaper officials have not yet received a written directive regarding the matter. In an interview with the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), Javad Rouh stated: “The managing director was informed verbally and via telephone that the newspaper is being banned. However, until an official order is issued, we will continue our work.”

Reasons for the Suspension Remain Unclear

Regarding the reasoning behind the decision, Rouh explained that no official cause has been communicated to the publication to date. He added:

“Hostile atmospheres are created against every piece of content we publish, yet the specific reason for Ham-Mihan’s ban has not been conveyed to us.”

According to the editor-in-chief, the decision was made by the Press Supervisory Board, and the newspaper’s representative is required to appear in court. Nevertheless, he emphasized that halting publication is strictly contingent upon receiving the formal notification.

Hope for Judicial Independence

Rouh concluded by expressing hope that the Judiciary would not be swayed by external pressures and smear campaigns. He remarked: “We hope that permission will be granted for a professional press organization, which has a defensible track record, to continue its activities as an influential newspaper.”
