Huawei Unveils MatePad Edge and MateBook Fold Extraordinary Master Edition
Huawei announced the launch of the Mate 80 series and Mate X7 foldable devices in China, alongside the introduction of two new product lines: the MatePad Edge 2-in-1 tablet and an Extraordinary Master Edition of the MateBook Fold. These devices represent Huawei’s continued expansion within the premium computing market.
The MatePad Edge is designed as a direct competitor to the Microsoft Surface tablet, functioning as a laptop replacement. It features a 14.2-inch OLED display and a unibody aluminum chassis, measuring 6.85 mm in thickness and weighing 789 grams. The device incorporates a 175-degree adjustable hinge, facilitating versatile positioning options.
The MatePad Edge is powered by either a Kirin X90 or Kirin X90A chipset, configurable with 16GB to 32GB of RAM and 256GB to 2TB of storage. Huawei claims the chipset delivers performance comparable to the Apple M5, representing a 3.8x improvement over the previous generation Kirin T92 SoC. The device offers optional liquid cooling and dual vapor chambers to manage thermal output.
The tablet’s 14.2-inch OLED touchscreen offers a resolution of 3,120 x 2,080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It supports stylus input via the Huawei M-Pencil Pro, and incorporates a six-speaker audio system and four microphones.
Powering the device is a 12,900 mAh battery with 140W charging capabilities. Connectivity is provided by a single USB 3.1 Gen 1 port.
The MatePad Edge is available in Space Gray and Bright Moon Silver color options. Pricing starts at CNY 5,999 ($844) for the 16GB RAM/256GB storage configuration, and reaches CNY 12,999 ($1,830) for the 32GB RAM/2TB SSD version.
The MateBook Fold Extraordinary Master Edition, available in black and red, features 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. It retains the specifications of the standard model and is priced at CNY 26,999 ($3,800).
