Mohammad Ali Abtahi: Continued Internet Blackout Breeds a New Security Crisis

Mohammad Ali Abtahi has warned that continuing the internet blackout after security conditions have normalized could itself generate a fresh security crisis.
Presidential Request to Restore Global Internet
Abtahi clarified that the President has officially requested the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council to lift the restrictions. He expressed his expectation that Mr. Larijani, as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, would take the President’s view seriously and, considering the normalization of conditions, open up the digital space as soon as possible.
He noted that the public demand has shifted from merely “lifting filtering” to the fundamental demand of “having internet access.”
Social and Psychological Impacts of the Outage
He emphasized that although security measures are implemented swiftly, their continuation after the emergency has subsided is unacceptable. Cutting off the internet, in addition to creating an unemployment crisis for economic activists, confronts the psyche of the new generation with profound hopelessness.
Abtahi added that cyberspace, which is the world’s primary media, should not be left entirely to the opposition. He argued that due to the blackout, the voice of the supporters of the Islamic Republic is also failing to reach the world.
