Pixel Watch 4: iFixit Declares It The Most Repairable Smartwatch.

The Google Pixel Watch 4, unveiled in August alongside the Pixel 10 series, became commercially available yesterday concurrent with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold release. Subsequent to the device’s launch, iFixit has published a comprehensive teardown video, characterizing the Pixel Watch 4 as the most repairable smartwatch to date.

The disassembly process commences with the removal of external screws, which concurrently function as part of the internal hinge mechanism. In contrast to contemporary Apple Watch designs, the Pixel Watch 4 incorporates a “real rear-entry design”, significantly enhancing its repairability.

This design innovation necessitated a fundamental architectural overhaul. The vibration motor is secured with screws and utilizes pogo pins for connectivity; two of the motor’s screws also serve to secure the battery. The battery replacement procedure is streamlined, allowing for completion within a few minutes. The display panel is sealed with a replaceable O-ring gasket, enabling an IP68 dust and water resistance rating without relying on adhesive. This construction method, alongside the use of screws, facilitates simplified component access. Furthermore, the circuit board housing the System-on-Chip (SoC) is easily removable.

Consequently, the Pixel Watch 4 has received a provisional repairability score of 9 out of 10 from iFixit (with 0 representing the least repairable and 10 the most). iFixit lauded the Pixel Watch 4’s design as “thoughtful” and “built to be repaired”, highlighting its commitment to user serviceability within a compact form factor.
