Samsung Unveils the Galaxy Z TriFold: A New Benchmark in Foldable Technology

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z TriFold, its inaugural tri-fold smartphone, representing a significant advancement in the company’s foldable device portfolio. This release marks Samsung’s 17th iteration of foldable technology and features the largest screen to date within the Galaxy foldable series, coupled with innovative software features and flagship-level specifications.

The Z TriFold distinguishes itself through several key design and technological innovations. Its dual titanium hinges provide comprehensive protection for the main folding screen when in the closed position. Unlike the Huawei Mate series, the Z TriFold’s cover screen is positioned on the rear, allowing the two portions of the folding screen to converge in the center.

The primary folding screen boasts a 10-inch diagonal dimension when fully extended, offering a resolution of 2,160 x 1,584 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. A 10MP selfie camera is integrated within a discreet punch-hole cutout on the right side. The screen is pre-installed with a protective film, consistent with other Z series foldable devices.

The 6.5-inch cover screen offers a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 21:9. It also incorporates an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate and can achieve a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The cover screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and houses a 10MP selfie camera.

The Z TriFold features an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, contributing to its sleek profile with a minimal thickness of 3.9mm at its thinnest point. The device weighs 309 grams and measures 159.2 x 75 x 12.9 mm when folded. Similar to the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, the Z TriFold is rated IP48 for ingress protection against dust and water.

Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage. The rear camera system mirrors that of the Z Fold7, comprising a 200MP main sensor (ISOCELL HP2), a 10MP 3x telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultrawide lens.

The Z TriFold incorporates a 5,600 mAh three-cell battery, distributed across the three back panels. Charging capabilities include 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.

The Samsung Z TriFold will be available in Crafted Black. Initial availability will commence in South Korea on December 12, with a retail price of KRW 3,594,000 (approximately $2,450). Samsung has confirmed plans to expand availability to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States in subsequent phases.
