Samsung to Manufacture Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Exclusively for Galaxy?

Qualcomm Reportedly Shifting Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 “for Galaxy” Production to Samsung
Recent reports indicate a potential shift in the manufacturing strategy for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 “for Galaxy” system-on-chip (SoC). This development follows the historical context of Qualcomm’s manufacturing partnerships, particularly the move from Samsung Foundry to TSMC following production challenges with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, initially announced in late September, is currently fabricated by TSMC using their 3nm process. However, emerging information from Korean sources suggests that Samsung will assume production responsibilities for the “for Galaxy” variant. This iteration has been a feature in Samsung’s flagship smartphones for several generations.
Furthermore, the “for Galaxy” version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to leverage Samsung’s advanced 2nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) process. This suggests more than just an overclocked version of the standard SoC.
While Qualcomm has previously partnered with Samsung, the current report proposes a different allocation. Initially, speculation suggested the upcoming Galaxy S26 series might feature Qualcomm’s platform. However, the latest reports indicate the “for Galaxy” chipset will instead be integrated into Samsung’s foldable devices, slated for release in the summer of 2026. Consequently, the Galaxy S series is anticipated to utilize the Exynos 2600 SoC in the future.
