Spotify: Parental Controls Simplified, Kid-Friendly Listening Made Easier.

Spotify has announced the introduction of “Managed accounts,” a new feature exclusively available to Premium Family subscribers, designed to enhance parental control over children’s Spotify usage. This functionality is currently being rolled out in select markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.

Spotify makes it easier for parents to control their kids' content

The “Managed accounts” feature provides Premium Family account administrators with a suite of controls, enabling them to filter explicit content, restrict access to specific songs, albums, or artists, and disable short video playback associated with certain tracks. Furthermore, the messaging functionality is entirely disabled within the child’s account. These parental controls are specifically tailored for users under the age of thirteen.

It is important to note that these “Managed accounts” are distinct from the standalone Spotify Kids application.

Despite these limitations, children with “Managed accounts” retain the ability to curate their own playlists and personalize their music preferences. Spotify’s algorithmic recommendation system will continue to provide customized music suggestions based on the child’s listening history. These recommendations will be independent of the content suggested to the parent’s account.
