Spotify and OpenAI have launched a collaborative integration, enabling users to interact with Spotify’s music and podcast library directly within the ChatGPT interface. This partnership facilitates music discovery, playlist creation, and podcast recommendations.
To utilize this functionality, users initiate a conversation within ChatGPT, explicitly including a Spotify request in their prompt. Upon initial interaction, users are prompted to connect their Spotify account, enabling seamless access to the Spotify catalog.
Once the Spotify account is linked, users can request specific songs, albums, artists, playlists, or podcast episodes. ChatGPT will then trigger the Spotify application within the chat interface, providing relevant results based on the user’s request.
Furthermore, users can request recommendations based on specific moods, themes, or topics. Spotify will then curate personalized selections within the ChatGPT conversation. For optimal results, Spotify recommends providing detailed prompts, including genre, mood, artist, and topic. For podcast-related requests, specifying the host or guest is also advisable.
It is important to note that while content discovery and recommendation are integrated, audio playback remains exclusive to the Spotify application. Clicking on a recommended item within the ChatGPT conversation will directly open the content within Spotify.
This ChatGPT integration is accessible to both Free and Premium Spotify users. Free users can access existing curated playlists, such as Discover Weekly and New Music Friday. Premium subscribers can leverage more complex prompts to generate customized track selections.
The integration is currently available to ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users in English across 145 countries on both web and mobile platforms (Android and iOS).
Spotify acknowledges that the integration is in its initial phase and anticipates ongoing refinement and improvement in the coming weeks and months.
Spotify has emphasized that connecting an account to ChatGPT is optional. Furthermore, the company has clarified that no audio or video content from its platform will be shared with OpenAI for training purposes.
