vivo Announces Global Expansion of OriginOS 6
Five years after its initial introduction, vivo’s OriginOS, designed as a successor to FuntouchOS, is expanding its availability beyond China. This global rollout is facilitated by the release of OriginOS 6, based on Android 16.
OriginOS 6 is slated to debut on the vivo X300 and X300 Pro models, although specific global release timelines are pending. Additional devices scheduled to receive the update include the vivo X Fold5, the vivo X200 series, and the iQOO 13 and iQOO Neo10 series. The phased rollout is scheduled to commence next month and will continue through 2026, encompassing a range of older vivo devices.
The updated OS emphasizes enhanced user experience, specifically focusing on performance optimization. Improvements include reduced application cold-start times, faster data loading speeds, and increased frame rate stability. A new animation engine introduces multiple animation styles, complementing the refined design language of the user interface.
OriginOS 6 integrates the Origin Design system, which aims to unify visual elements across the display. Key design features incorporate transparency, blur effects, and a custom font, vivo Sans, offering support for over 40 languages and adjustable weight settings for improved readability.
The Origin Island feature integrates with the Live Updates functionality within Android 16. This provides persistent on-screen access to contextually relevant actions. Examples include “Copy & Go,” which facilitates direct calling or messaging after copying a phone number, and “Drag & Go,” enabling quick image editing without navigating away from the current application.
Artificial intelligence features are also integrated within OriginOS 6. vivo has collaborated with Google to incorporate the Gemini chatbot and the Circle to Search feature.
The global rollout of OriginOS 6 is scheduled to begin in November. The implementation will be phased, with availability varying across different markets.
